Girl’s Bedroom Refresh - Before and After

Today, I’m sharing a bedroom refresh that I recently completed for a 10 year old girl. It’s actually in the same Edwardian house as the dark green boy’s room that I showed you a few months ago.

Before

This bedroom was decorated when the little client moved in a few years ago and she was still happy with many aspects of the room, plus we wanted to save money wherever we could. So the things staying were:

  • Carpet

  • Wall and woodwork colours

  • Curtains

  • Built-in wardrobe

The Interior Design Scheme

Design Visual

We needed to choose colours that would complement the curtains and paint colour so we decided on pink and mint green (a favourite colour scheme of mine, especially for girls’ rooms). We also added pale wood and rattan tones for warmth.

After

Previously, the single bed had taken up a lot of wall space so we rotated the bed position which meant we could swap the single bed for a double, with a bedside table on one side and a chest of drawers on the other.

After

So pretty! I absolutely love the fairylights which we strung along the headboard. And how lovely is the print above the bed? I spotted it in Liberty when I visited London in February.

Before

One of the main issues was storage. The client had lots of toys and books stored in her bedroom that she no longer played with so the first thing I asked her to do was to have a good clear out. The storage cubes meant that it was mainly open storage, not great for hiding unsightly items.

After

The sideboard is from Maisons du Monde and provides plenty of closed storage space. I love the wispy white foliage print - it feels girly but grown up at the same time.

After

We added accents of yellow with copper and gold metallics to warm things up.

The cute sofa from Made.com provides handy seating for reading or for when friends are round. And I’m a bit obsessed with the cushions from Oliver Bonas - I’ve used their cushions on lots of recent projects. The peg lights are perfect for displaying photos and it’s super easy to swap them around. We also added some IKEA frames for displaying drawings (she’s still busy filling them!).

The little client is thrilled with her new space. Being a very insightful girl, she said “Nothing matches but everything goes together.” And that is the secret of a well designed space!
