New Build Boy’s Room & Playroom - Final Reveal

Boy's room with half painted teal wall

A couple of weeks ago, I showed you the little girl’s room reveal at the new build project I’ve been working on in Lightcliffe. Today, I’ve got two final reveals for you - the little boy’s bedroom and the playroom which also doubles up as a home office. Both are really affordable room refreshes.

Boy’s Bedroom

Before

I did the initial consultation just after the clients had moved in and were still at the unpacking stage. This room was originally their daughter’s but we swapped them around so the little boy moved into here. He was 4 at the time.

Interior Design Scheme

Interior design board for boy's bedroom

We wanted to create a nice flow through from his sister’s room next door so we did a half painted wall, with the same colour on the top half and ceilings in both rooms (Wimborne White by Farrow & Ball colour matched by Dulux). We chose a slightly bluer colour for the bottom half of the walls in here - Farrow & Ball’s Dix Blue. The existing bed and carpet were staying and needed to be factored into the designs.

See the lovely flow between rooms?!

Little boy's teal and yellow bedroom

We added contemporary geometric pattern with the duvet cover which coordinates with the blue-green of the walls. The cute animal cushions are from La Redoute, and the bedside wall light is from Lighting Direct - really affordable at just £18.49.

Little boy's room with yellow beanbag and large retro wall prints

Hanging large framed prints is a great way of adding personality and colour to a kid’s room. These retro style ones are from King and McGaw - one of my go to shops for affordable art - and they’re perfect for a boy’s bedroom. The geometric yellow beanbag creates a cosy sitting area for reading and adds lovely warmth to this corner.

Little boy's bedroom with locker style wardrobe

I sourced a locker style wardrobe for an informal feel - it’s another La Redoute buy - and the deep teal colour adds depth.

The Playroom / Home Office

Before

Moving through to the playroom, this room was being used as a storage area but it needed to become a playroom and a home office. It often makes sense to combine these functions because playrooms are usually used outside of normal working hours (on evenings and weekends).

Before

Lots of doors in here! The one on the right is to an en-suite bathroom, the middle one leads out to the landing and the one on the left is a large cupboard - perfect for toy storage.

After

Colour block room with sloping roof designed by interior designer in west yorkshire

People are often scared of decorating rooms with sloping ceilings because they’re not sure where one colour should end and another should start. But the unusual angles are a perfect opportunity to have fun with paint! We painted the walls in Aquamarine Light by Little Greene and colour blocked the sofa area with Marine Blue. The deep pile rug provides a cosy spot for playing. The client sourced the grey sofa bed from Wayfair.

We also added a lively colour pop in the desk area to inspire productivity - it’s Little Greene’s Orange Aurora.

Interior design west yorkshire desk area

I kept the desk style simple with the scandi style Lilasen from IKEA.

The total cost of products for both these rooms was just over £2k and they feel like completely different spaces.
